Recap: RSU election results see Unify sweep executive board

(By: Angela McLean)

After two weeks of campaigning and a three-day voting period, Ryerson students have elected their 2018-19 Ryerson Students’ Union (RSU) executives and directors.

In an overwhelming victory, the Unify slate claimed all five executive member positions, including president (Ram Ganesh.) For some positions, such as VP Education, Unify’s candidate won by more than double the votes.

Members from all three slates – Unify, Elevate and Rhino Party – were voted into faculty and graduate representative positions.

In an effort to capture student opinions in real time, RUtv News ran mock polls as the official polls were open. Our results closely matched those of the official election results, as they did the year prior.

The most surprising difference was within the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, where Rhino Party’s Daniyal Patricio jumped up from the last spot of six candidates running (our standings) to the final fourth place. Unify’s Vishaal Venkatesh, who placed fourth in our polls, was disqualified due to reasons not cited by the RSU.

Scroll down for a full list of the winners as announced by the RSU and stay tuned for interviews with your 2018-19 RSU executives.
