As the weather cools down, the school year is starting to heat up—but you can only stare at that textbook so many times before your eyes start to glaze over every page. Luckily for you, you go to school in one of the most exciting cities in Canada. Take a break from studying and check out these six events you can catch this month on campus and across the city!
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Concert
Calling all witches, wizards and music lovers—get your wands ready. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is screening with live music accompaniment from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. From Oct. 12-14, join Harry, Ron and Hermione and enjoy a magical evening at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts. You can find more information and tickets here.
International Thanksgiving Dinner at Ryerson
Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy good food and company. If you’re an international student and are away from home this Thanksgiving weekend, Ryerson’s International Student Support is hosting a free Thanksgiving-themed lunch on Oct. 13! Learn more and register on the ConnectRU site.
Cineplex Free Movie Day
The only thing better than going to the movies is going to the movies for free—on Oct. 14, Cineplex is giving you the chance to do just that. In partnership with WE Charity, Cineplex is holding a Community Day with free admission to movies from 9:00 to 11 a.m. Select concession treats will be just $2.50, with proceeds supporting the charity. Check out Cineplex’s website for information on the movies and times.
Ryerson Student Night at BMO Field
On Oct. 21, the Argos and the Blue Bombers will face off to an audience of university students—and you’re invited! Get your blue and gold on and cheer on the Toronto Argonauts with your fellow Rams. Tickets are $25 and $5 goes towards the RSU and Ryerson’s Athletics Department. Follow this link for more information and to buy your tickets!
Six Ideas in 60 Minutes
If you’re looking for some inspiration, check out this TED Talk-style event on Oct. 26 in the Podium building. Six speakers will have ten minutes each to share their stories and motivate students to become more self-aware. There’s also free food so you can feed your stomach while you feed your mind. Learn more and register through ConnectRU.
Pedestrian Sunday at Kensington Market
Fancy a stroll through Kensington Market? You’ll have the perfect chance for this on Oct. 29 for the final Pedestrian Sunday of the season. In addition to the usual fun mix of food and entertainment, there will be vendors, music and street performers. Grab some food, enjoy the car-free streets and the (hopefully warm) weather!
