January isn’t exactly the most exciting or pleasant month of the year. Along with the beginning of the new year, for students it also marks the beginning of a new semester. With the cold, gray weather outside, it may be hard to find the motivation or even energy to stay on top of things. If you’re looking for a way to stay motivated this semester, here is a list of songs that are guaranteed to boost your morale – consider it your motivational playlist!
1. “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey
“Don’t Stop Believin’” is a classic rock ballad that’s lyrics have captivated audiences since its original release in 1981. The lyrics describe everyday people all living different lives but all searching for the same thing: happiness. After all, “everybody wants a thrill.” This throwback is sure to get you to keep you motivated by remembering to not stop believing.
2. “Stronger” by Kanye West
How could you have a motivational playlist without the king of self confidence himself, Kanye West. Kanye’s single “Stronger” reminds us to learn from our past experiences to help us grow. Whether we had a bad breakup, or a rough first semester we can use what we learned and apply it to our future.
3. “Run The World (Girls)” by Beyoncé
Although traditionally aimed towards women, Beyoncé’s “Run The World (Girls)” can be interpreted by any person in need of some serious motivation. For example, if you’re worried about what mark you’re going to get on your essay just unleash your inner Beyoncé and sing along to lyrics such as “my persuasion can build a nation” to remember that you got this in the bag.
4. “Defying Gravity” from Wicked
“Defying Gravity” may not be a familiar song to those who mostly listen to top 40. However, this song from the Broadway show Wicked kicks some serious motivational butt. After realizing that she can only be true to who she is, Elphaba begins to take matters into her own hands and unleashes a powerful goddess within. So, next time you’re about to enter an exam you’ve studied way too long for, remember to trust your instincts, close your eyes and leap.
5. “Happy” by Pharrell Williams
Now that you have conquered the challenge of self motivation, there is no better result than feeling happy. “Happy” by Pharrell Williams is a song that promotes happiness. It’s a fun, loving, carefree song which will inspire you to get on your feet and spread motivation through the world.
