Ain’t No Rest for Cage The Elephant

(By: Lauren Smith)

It’s almost here- Cage the Elephant’s new album is to be released December 18, 2015. You may have heard some of their biggest hits, like “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked” or “Come a Little Closer”- if you haven’t, where have you been?

While usually taking 2 or 3 years to come out with a new album, their new release Tell Me I’m Pretty is coming out only a year after their last album, Melophobia. Melophobia received incredible recognition upon its release and even won a Grammy this year for Best Alternative Music Album.

Tell Me I’m Pretty is all about honesty and coming to their own terms. In an interview with at Coachella, lead singer Matt Shultz elaborated by saying, “On this record, we really found our own voice and it became more about allowing our emotions or some kind of story to shape a song rather than borrowing from the people we admired.” Their first self-titled album took on a more bluesy-classic rock feel, while their second album, Thank You, Happy Birthday, had a punk-rock vibe and was often compared to Nirvana and the Pixies. Melophobia is where the band really started to come into their own niche and if they stay on the same track, their newest album will be the most genuine of them all.

Cage the Elephant and The Black Keys went on tour together during their Turn Blue world tour in 2014 and have been collaborating on Tell Me I’m Pretty ever since. The album was produced by Dan Auerbach, lead guitarist and singer of The Black Keys and from the looks of it, Cage the Elephant is in good hands. Dan Auerbach has also produced for Lana Del Rey and Ray LaMontagne and won a Grammy for Producer of The Year in 2013.

Keep your ears open for the new album release in December, and hopefully a follow up tour. If Cage the Elephant didn’t already have a unique sound, Tell Me I’m Pretty is predicted to be their most adventurous album yet.
